A two-step checkout splits the purchase across two pages. Step one captures contact details. Step two takes payment. Anyone who completes step one but leaves step two is now in your CRM — you can follow up. A single-step checkout loses that person entirely.

Step 1: Contact Capture

Add a standard Form element to your first checkout step

Use the standard Form — NOT the Order Form. Collect: First Name, Last Name, Email. Three fields maximum.

Configure the form submit action

Set it to advance the visitor to Step 2. MONDAi creates a contact record at this point.

Step 2: Payment

Add the Order Form element to your second step

Connect your product, configure payment fields, set the post-purchase redirect.

Create a workflow triggered by new contact creation (Step 1 submission) that waits 30–60 minutes and checks whether a purchase tag has been applied. If not, send a direct follow-up with a link back to Step 2. This single automation routinely recovers 10–20% of abandoned checkouts.

Common Mistakes

Using the Order Form element on Step 1 — Step 1 must use a standard Form element only.

Making Step 1 longer than three fields.
